Loving mother to Anthony, Suzanne and Richard. Wife to Lindsay (Splinter) and sister to Jean. Born in Cardiff, Wales on September 13th 1927 to Elsie and Robert O’Brien, Dorienne met Lindsay “Splinter” Board, her husband-to-be at just 13 years old. They formed an inseparable and amazing partnership travelling the world until Splinter died in 1995. Dorienne not only was the most loving, caring and supportive mother, but also a pillar of strength to Splinter throughout his working life. Upon retirement, together they founded a Christian mission in the south of France which would serve the needs of her community for the next 20 years. After Splinter’s death, Dorienne continued to run the mission for a number of years, fundraising, hosting guest speakers, and drawing together a welcoming circle for the many whom she reached out to. She selflessly gave of her life, often ignoring her own personal needs while maintaining a cheerful disposition. This incredible inner strength shone out through Dorienne’s faith in and service to the Lord. She encouraged her children to follow their chosen paths; teaching respect, patience and perseverance, and setting a fine example by successfully running her own business for many years in the 1960’s and 70’s. In her early fifties Dorienne discovered a hidden artistic talent and turned this gift to sculpting and casting in bronze. Her exhibits have found their way to many places around the world. During her latter years Dorienne travelled the world visiting family and friends now living on 3 continents. Many commented that she was blessed to have such a close and loving relationship with her family despite the distances. Dorienne is survived by her three children Anthony and wife Carolyn; Suzanne and husband Rob; Richard and wife Julie; her sister Jean and husband Don; her eight grandchildren Lauren and husband Todd, Sophie and husband Cody, Katrina and husband Ian, Jennie, Daniel, Michael, Julian and Sammy, and her three great grandchildren Weslie, Darby, and Liam.
